Copisa Prevails Over ACS And OHLA

Three years after the construction of the new Montserrat market was announced, Barcelona City Council has already chosen its promoter. The council has awarded the works for the new building to the Catalan construction company Copisa for 12.5 million euros. The firm of the Cornadó family won the competition over companies such as Dragados, OHLA, Sacyr and FCC.

The Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona, in charge of the procedure, chose the company based in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) thanks to the fact that it presented the best technical proposal among the 14 companies that participated in the tender. The company chaired by Anna Cornadó obtained 89.57 points despite being only fourth in economic terms.

According to the documentation to which had access , the organization was ahead of Comsa, of the Miarnau family, which added 86.29 points; from FCC (81.95 points); OHLA (80.64 points); the alliance between Sacyr and Copcisa (75.93 points); and the association between Dragados, from the ACS group, and Alainsa (70.91 points).

The City Council endowed the contract with a budget of 14.2 million euros. Copisa presented an offer of 10.4 million euros without VAT; 12.5 million euros when adding taxes.

Barcelona renews its markets
The work is part of the municipal market renovation process initiated by the Barcelona City Council in 2019. Due to the pandemic, the plan was delayed until now. The building is located in the Nou Barris district, very close to the Ronda de Dalt. The new property will have a constructed area of 10,045 square meters, which will be distributed over two floors. If current forecasts are met, it will be completed in the second half of 2024.

The equipment will be located in a parking space, so it will not affect the operation of the current market.

The project configures the new building in two large blocks; a part of the building will be semi-underground due to the slope of the land. Two basement floors, for logistics and parking, will be below ground. In parallel will be the loading and unloading area and the stores of the paradistas. Above ground level, the supermarket will be located, on the ground floor, and the market itself, on the upper floor.
